Women's Equality

School program details

In this program students explore gender stereotypes and how these continue to persist today in spite of many positive changes for women in Canada. Students discover some of the unique challenges faced by women in the last century, including Indigenous women, and leave inspired by their stories of resilience and persistence.

Students learn that, while women and men have the same human rights, women have faced and continue to face discrimination that keeps them from fully enjoying their rights.

Students experience exhibits about women’s rights located in three galleries, including a media literacy film and a music station.

Students participatein discussions that prompt them to think critically about what it means to respect everyone’s rights, regardless of their gender identity.

Students discuss their ideas on equality for women, and how, because some women took action, gender rights are now protected in Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
